Union: A Convenient and Innovative Bicycle Lock

Union is a new and convenient bicycle lock that offers three unique functions: fingerprint unlocking, magnetic fixing, and reflective warning. With the integration of these features, Union provides a seamless and efficient locking experience for cyclists.

To ensure the security of the lock, Union utilizes mature fingerprint recognition technology. This not only enhances the user's operating experience but also eliminates the need for keys, preventing the hassle of losing or misplacing them. Additionally, the lock is magnetically attached to the back of the bike seat tube, ensuring a secure and firm connection.

Union also incorporates a reflective warning system, increasing visibility and safety during nighttime rides. This feature alerts other road users to the presence of the bicycle, reducing the risk of accidents.

The design of Union was carefully considered to ensure its compatibility with various bicycle models. With a physical size of 28mmx74mmx352mm, it can be easily adapted to any bike without compromising its functionality or aesthetics.

The development of Union involved extensive research to understand the needs and preferences of lock users. The designers conducted interviews with dealers, manufacturers, and cyclists to gain insights into the challenges faced by cyclists and the evolving trends in bicycle design. This research led to the realization that a more efficient and natural unlocking and locking process was necessary.

One of the main challenges in creating Union was to design a product that seamlessly integrates with bicycles, rather than being an additional accessory. By combining the lock with the seat post, Union not only provides convenience to users but also reduces waste and promotes integrated innovation.

The Union project started in Beijing in February 2020 and was completed in April 2020. The design has received recognition and accolades, including the 2020 Red Dot Award: Best of the Best and the Korea K-Design Award Grand Prize.
